Country bluegrass special at The Acoustic Yard

The Acoustic Yard, a monthly showcase for singers and songwriters in Matt Molloy’s, Westport, returns on Tuesday (July 22 ) with a country bluegrass special.

Two American singer-songwriters, coincidentally both named Gary Ferguson, are sharing the bill with Belfast born songstress Janet Holmes.

Gary Gene Ferguson is a guitarist, singer, and songwriter from Pennsylvania. He first toured Ireland in 2005 and found audiences here had a deep appreciation for American folk, country, and bluegrass music. He has been returning ever since.

In addition to the Gary Ferguson Band, Gary has recorded or performed with distinguished bluegrass musicians such as Ronnie McCoury, Robbie McCoury, Mike Auldridge, Alan O’Bryant, Ron Stewart, and Jimmy Gaudreau.

Gary Alan Ferguson, from Fredericksburg, Virginia, is a singer, songwriter, and versatile instrumentalist whose music is influenced by a broad range of genres, from rock, soul, and gospel to folk, jazz, country, and bluegrass.

Janet Holmes has become a mainstay of the Irish country and bluegrass scene, especially in Northern Ireland, where she is a regular at festivals. She will be joined onstage by her musical partner and husband, Dobro player extraordinaire Colin Henry.

Doors open at 8.30pm. The performance will be hosted by David Dee Moore and filmed by Irish TV.
