Doo-wop comes to town after Drifters announce Mayo date

The original doo-wop sound of the 1950s and 60s is coming to Castlebar.

One of the most famous groups of the era, The Drifters, have added a Mayo date to their tour of Ireland and will be in the Royal Theatre, Castlebar, on October 26.

Tickets for the soul, R&B, and doo-wop group go on sale today (Friday ).

Fans can expect a setlist loaded with 60 years of massive hits such as ‘Up On The Roof’, ‘Stand By Me’, ‘Be My Baby’, ‘Under The Boardwalk’, ‘Save The Last Dance For Me’, and many more.

The Drifters have achieved massive chart success across the world selling more than 114 million albums and 214 million singles.

The current lineup, Michael Williams, Ryan King, Damion Charles, and Daniel Bowen-Smith, are getting ready to embark on their Optimum World Tour 2014 and have four Irish dates scheduled in total. Promotors say the new tour is a “fast moving and exciting production that will showcase The Drifters’ sound signature of four part vocal harmonies at its best”.
