Westport teacher wins volunteering award

Westport teacher Laura Ní Mhaille has received an award for her contribution to fighting global poverty as a volunteer.

Ms Ní Mhaille volunteered in Ghana with international development organisation VSO.

She received the award at VSO’s 10th anniversary celebratations in Dublin.

Ms Ní Mhaille worked as a teacher support officer, training primary school teachers in Ghana.

In recognition of her work as a VSO volunteer, Ms Ní Mhaille received a certificate from Minister of State for Trade and Development, Joe Costello, who also spoke about the importance of volunteering in Ireland’s development strategy.

‘I am so proud of each and every one of our volunteers. They have all contributed so much to our work fighting global poverty’, said Malcolm Quigley, executive director, VSO Ireland.
