Volunteer corner

Mayo Volunteer Centre works to promote and support volunteering in Mayo. The centre manages an online database of volunteering opportunities, which you can view at www.volunteermayo.ie

Each month, the Mayo Advertiser, in association with the Mayo Volunteer Centre, highlights a sample of these local volunteering options.

This month, the centre was also delighted to be selected as one of the three local charities open to support from the Tesco Community Fund in Castlebar. Keep it in mind for a vote with your little blue token. Any extra support it gets will go towards helping local charities to recruit and manage their volunteers.

Current volunteering opportunities

Event management assistants - Mayo Rape Crisis Centre

An exciting opportunity to help organise and manage an inaugural event to benefit Mayo RCC. Volunteers will gain experience in event management and will be supported by a professional event manager.

Coder Dojo mentor - Claremorris Coder Dojo Club

Share basic level computer programming skills with children, including robotics, Scratch, HTML, and Java, once a week on a Saturday morning.

Big Brother Big Sister Mayo

Meet with a young person once a week to be a friendly, positive influence. Share any interests you may have with them such as sport, cookery, computers, cinema, bowling, et cetera.

Volunteer drivers - Cheshire Home

Residents of the Cheshire Home in Bohola sometimes require drivers to help them get to appointments, shopping trips, family visits etc. Wheelchair accessible vehicles will be available for the drivers to use.

Befriender to a child with disabilities – Enable Ireland

Volunteers will be matched with a child with disabilities to help them get involved in play and recreational activities on a weekly basis.
