An Taoiseach to launch civic initiative for Castlebar

This Saturday, April 6, An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny will be on the Mall to launch the Love Castlebar initiative. In celebration of the launch, the entire community are invited between 10.30am and 12 noon for a morning of serious, free, and fun activity.

There will be an “End of Easter” egg hunt for the little ones, a treasure hunt for the bigger little ones, along with face painting, a bouncy castle, and outdoor art. Everyone attending the launch will receive the Love Castlebar Card which will be valid for the day.

The Love Castlebar initiative, promising Ireland’s warmest welcome, will greatly enhance the experience of visitors to the town. A magnificent group of 100 citizens have offered to act as ambassadors for their town. Each registered visitor will be appointed an ambassador whose role will include greeting the visitors, bringing them on a tour of Castlebar and acting as a concierge, advising them on local activities and amenities. Where possible, the ambassadors will also assist visitors in tracing their Castlebar roots. Guests will also receive the Love Castlebar Card, which will entitle them to great discounts and special offers.

The support for the civic initiative has been extraordinary, with almost every business, club and leisure amenity participating. Last week saw 50 businesses complete the Fåilte Ireland customer care programme, with many more to follow. Fåilte Ireland have described it as “The biggest community led initiative of its kind”.

Helen O’Hara, founder of the initiative, has issued this call to action: “Please come along to be part of truly unique launch on Saturday morning, if you love Castlebar, join the welcome revolution.”
