Garrymore Drama Group present Dancing at Lughnasa

Garrymore Drama Group present Brian Friel’s classic Dancing at Lughnasa at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar next Thursday, March 21, at 8pm. Garrymore Drama Group has been in existence since the early 1980s and is well established with many successful productions and two All Ireland confined titles to its credit. This year they bring to life Brian Friel’s much-loved classic, in a production directed by Frankie Ralph O’Malley.

Holy Motors next up at Ballina Film Club

Next Tuesday, March 19 at 8pm Ballina Film Club will hold its next screening in Ballina Arts Centre. Holy Motors will be the selection for this screening. This is an ingenious film written and directed by Leos Carax and stars Eva Mendes, Michel Piccoli, and Kylie Minogue.

Stunning theatre double at the Linenhall

Starring actor par excellence Pat Kinevane, Fishamble theatre company present two dazzling nights of theatre at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar: Forgotten on Wednesday, April 10, at 8pm and Silent on Thursday, April 11, at 8pm.

Written and performed by Pat Kinevane in a tour de force double bill directed by Jim Culleton, these two plays seethe with energy and passion, and are presented by Fishamble, a multi-award winning Irish company dedicated to the discovery, development, and production of new work for the theatre.

St Patrick’s weekend entertainment at the Downhill

Frog’s Bar in the Downhill Hotel, Ballina, has a great weekend of live music lined up for this St Patrick’s weekend. Small and Fancy are coming back to Frogs Bar from 9pm on both tonight, Friday, March 15, and tomorrow Saturday, March 16. You may remember them from previous visits to Frogs Bar when they were called Karisma and they are bringing their best back to Ballina this weekend.

The Moy Sessions Volume One

Ballina Arts Centre will be hosting an evening with two of Ireland’s finest short story writers, Mayo native Mike McCormack and Kevin Barry next Thursday, March 21 at 8pm. This will be he first evening of a number of sessions of new readings, tickets cost €8 or €5 with concession.

Mayo Gathering events coming up

The Mayo Advertiser will be giving our readers a regular run down of events planned for The Gathering over the rest of the year. Here is a run down of some of the events lined up for the next week or so. Féile Phil Henry, from March 15 - 17 which will take place in Bangor Erris, Doohoma, and Geesala. The Filleadh Cill tSeadhna 2013 will take place today, Friday March 15, in Bangor Erris, Doohoma and Geesala too. From today, Friday, March 15 to Monday, March 18, JCI Sheffield will be visiting JCI Mayo in Westport. Also in Westport on Monday, you will be able to find the Mickey Palmer Cup, cycling time trial challenge, and the Rás Mayo Cycle Route. The Carrowholly 5k Fun Run and Family Event day will also be taking place in Carrowholly, Westport, on this coming Monday. Later on next week on Friday, March 22, the Choctaw Nation and Doolough Famine Walk will take place in Louisburgh and starting on the same day and running until Sunday, March 24 is the Croagh Patrick Heritage Trail Walking Festival 2013, March 22-24, which is based in Balla. Saturday week, March 23, will see two other very testing challenges taking place with the Great Western Greenway Challenge being run from Westport to Achill and the Mayo Mud Run taking place in Ballina.
