Clare Island mourns death of local fisherman

The Clare Island fisherman who drowned this week while out checking lobster pots is to be buried today (Friday).

Martin Burns (51) from Gurteen, Clare Island, failed to return home on Tuesday evening when he went out in his currach.

His body was recovered from the sea following a two-hour search by the Achill lifeboat.

A postmortem examination was carried out on Wednesday at Mayo General Hospital.

He is survived by his wife Nora and his three children.
