Imagine nine counties and 665km of open road from the top of Ireland (Malin Head) to the very bottom (Mizen Head)! Manageable if you have a sparkling two litre car with air condition and comfortable suspension but what about a Vespa PX 125 scooter (max speed, 45mph)? Internet research will tell you that it has never been done before. This is a challenge that is going to be attempted by local Castlebar man, Ian Mc Dyer. In conjunction with McCarthy’s Bar, Main Street, Castlebar, Ian and his support team will make their attempt next weekend on Friday and Saturday, August 17 and 18.
Western Care Association Individualised Services will be the recipient of some much needed sponsorship raised by The Great Malin to Mizen Vespa Run. It is hoped local people and businesses will support the event in whatever way they can. The victorious team are due to arrive back in McCarthy’s at approximately 10pm on the Saturday where there will be live music and a draw to raise further funds.
Donations can be made directly to Western Care Association at John Moore Road, Castlebar, phone 094 9029136. Sponsorship cards are available at local business premises in the town and on line on the mycharity.ie website at: http://www.mycharity.ie /event/vespa125malintomizen/ Your support will be greatly appreciated.
