A man from Porturlin was before Castlebar District Court this week after he was found drunk behind the wheel of a car after a night out in Castlebar.
On Sunday April 3 2010 at 4.25am, gardaí on patrol at Mountain View, Castlebar, which is opposite the TF, observed Terrence McAndrew, Muingnalee, Porturlin, Ballina sitting in a parked Ford Focus. The lights of the car were on and the driver’s door was ajar with the keys in the ignition.
McAndrew told the gardaí that he was on his way home. Gardaí noticed a strong smell of alcohol coming from the defendant. At Castlebar Garda Station McAndrew provided two breath specimens which gave a reading of 75mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.
The defendant has a previous drink driving conviction.
Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined him €600 and disqualified him from driving for three years.
