Davitt College students in Cross Border Peace Proms

A group of first year students from Davitt College took part in the Cross Borders Peace Proms last weekend.

The Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland, established in 1995, brings together students from various backgrounds and communities and from all parts of Ireland to perform together in major regional venues across Ireland.

The Mayo schools came together and performed last weekend at the Royal Theatre, Castlebar. Davitt College was one of two secondary schools in Mayo taking part in the project. Conducted by Gearoid Grant the students performed a wide variety of music from various genres, including specially commissioned works celebrating the fusion of cultures.

The Peace Proms project has become one of Ireland’s flagship peace initiatives and was a highly rewarding experience for the students. It offered them a memorable opportunity to sing with a full symphony orchestra and some of Ireland’s top professional musicians. Congratulations to all Davitt College students who took part and performed so well.
