Moneen works welcomed

Mayor of Castlebar and Fine Gael Town Councillor, has welcomed confirmation that Castlebar Town Council is planning to conduct improvement works in the Moneen Industrial Estate.

Representatives of the Industrial Estate tenants and owners have met with the Town Manager to discuss plans for the area which will be drawn up over the next two or three weeks. In the interim, a temporary basecourse repair will be made to one of the worst parts of the road at the central junction in the Industrial Estate. The improvement works will primarily involve the provision of suitable footpaths, roads and signage in the Industrial Estate.

Cllr Deere said: "It is hard enough to be in business without having to worry about potholes and damaged footpaths around your business premises considering the level of commercial rates that they may be paying. Roughly, there are 200 people working throughout the Moneen Industrial Estate in Castlebar and the road conditions must be causing serious damage to their cars and other vehicles. There has been no significant public investment in infrastructure around this area for over twenty years and I welcome that this will soon change.”
