Government still sending jobs abroad – O’Mahony

Mayo Fine Gael TD John O’Mahony has learned that the Land Registry Office has outsourced a digital mapping contract to an English company that has Indian subcontractors.

Deputy O’Mahony made the discovery last week when he asked the Minister for Justice and Law Reform about contracts being carried out for the Land Registry by non-Irish companies.

“I understand that the contracts were awarded after a tendering process that was carried out under EU procurement rules and in accordance with established public sector guidelines, but allowing for that, it just does not seem right that work that could be carried out here in Ireland is being done by an Indian company.

“It’s a difficult enough environment for Irish companies to be operating in but it must be especially demoralising for them when they see contracts being given to non-Irish companies,” he said.
