Angry man crashed into cars and post after row with wife

A Polish national who after an argument with his wife crashed his car into two parked cars and a lamp post and then fled the scene, was disqualified from driving at Ballina District Court this week.

On June 30 at 12.45am, gardaí received a report that a red Audi had crashed into two parked cars and a lamp post on Barrett Street. Damage to the parked cars is estimated to cost thousands.

Odyseusz Wypych, 85 Cluain na Ri, Ballina, was the driver at the time and when gardaí contacted him he admitted driving at the time. The defendant had no insurance and compensation has not been paid.

The Polish national told the court that he had a fight with his wife that night which “pissed him off” and then the incident occurred.

The defendant, who has no previous convictions, was convicted and fined €300 for careless driving by Judge Mary Devins, and he was disqualified from driving for one year; for not having insurance he was convicted and fined €600 and disqualified from driving for one year concurrent. For not having a driving licence he was convicted and fined €170, and for the hit and run charge the defendant was convicted and fined €500 and disqualified for two years concurrent.
