Man receiving disability payments worked on building sites

A 59-year-old married man who claimed disability allowance while he worked as a sub contractor was before Kiltimagh District Court last week.

John Higgins, Main Street, Kiltimagh applied for disability allowance in February 2002 for sciatica and depression, however in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 Higgins was also employed for a number of weeks on building sites.

A total of €16,040.50 was claimed fraudulently and so far €260 has been paid back.

Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined the defendant a total of €1,000.
