Removal of Bachelor’s Walk jetty put back for public submissions

The removal of a jetty at Bachelor’s Walk in Ballina which a number of councillors had called for, as it was deemed a danger to the public and the site of anti social behaviour, has been put back to the April meeting of the council following the call for public consultation on the issue.

Town manager Paddy Mahon told Wednesday’s meeting of the council that he had investigated the ownership of the jetty which is used by the boat club and it is in the town council’s ownership and the council will remove it. Cllr Peter Clarke proposed the removal and it was seconded by Cllr Gerry Ginty. However Cllr Michelle Mulherin called for the public to be consulted on it and for submissions from people in the town to be taken before it was removed. This was supported by mayor Mary Kelly. Cllr Ginty said he had no problem with submissions being taken from the public as long as it was done in a speedy fashion and it came before the council again at the April meeting. The council executive agreed to this plan of action.
