Gardaí find Jeep driver to be over the limit

Two men ended up with convictions following the arrest of one man for drink driving.

John Kelly, Shannagh, Ballina, pleaded guilty to having no road tax on a Jeep that he owned which was being driven by John Moyles, Derryhillagh, Castlehill, Ballina. Moyles was seen driving the jeep in Tubbermore, Ballina, by gardaí at 6.05pm on January 18 2009. They saw the Jeep being driven erratically and then pull in to the side of the road without indicating and then attempt a U-turn without indicating. They stopped the jJeep and arrested Moyles on suspicion of drink driving. A blood sample showed Moyles to have 280mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood.

Moyles told the court that he had borrowed the Jeep that evening from a friend he had been visiting (Kelly ). The Jeep had no tax on it at the time and Kelly admitted the charge in court, and was convicted and fined €500. Moyles, who pleaded guilty to drink driving, was convicted and fined €800 and disqualified from driving for three years, by Judge Mary Devins.
