Jail for teen for theft, public order and traffic offences

A 19-year-old with 47 previous convictions who is currently serving a jail sentence in Castlerea, was sentenced to six months in jail at Castlebar District Court this week.

The court heard that on various dates Thomas Ward, Bridge Street, Kilkelly stole a bag from a Bus Éireann bus; drove without insurance and tried to prevent an arrest.

Judge Mary Devins convicted Ward €1,700; disqualified him from driving for five years, and sentenced him to prison.
