Mayo native's Kombucha brand gets national roll-out

Business partners Ronan Coughlan and Tracy Armstrong, launched their KO Kombucha brand in 2018 from their spare room.

Now based in the Ferbane Enterprise Centre in Offaly, they have seen a huge increase in demand for their immune-boosting drink throughout Covid-19 and have recently created new employment to keep up with demand.

The KO Kombucha product, available in three flavours; Original, Blueberry and Strawberry, is a craft brewed kombucha and organic certified. It is the couple’s personal and professional commitment to quality, provenance, and craft production that really sets the KO brand and products apart from competitors.

Co-Founder Tracy Armstrong who is originally from Mayo, is about to launch their range into Supervalu for 12 weeks as part of the Super Value Food Academy, and said: "Our mission is to protect the authenticity of kombucha as a functional beverage and to bring organic, healthy and delicious kombucha to the people of the world!"

She continued: "We attended the first ever European Kombucha Summit and as the industry grows, so too does the competition, with many using mass manufacturing methods to create ‘kombucha’ soft drinks with questionable brewing methods such as kombucha from concentrate and pasteurisation, which in effect kills the kombucha. What we don’t want is to see in 10 years time kombucha was supposed to be this amazing beneficial beverage and its become nothing more than another soft drink.

"Kombucha is a raw fermented tea which is now being scientifically proven to help aid digestion, boost immunity and improve gut health.

"Our mission from the start was to put something beneficial out into the world and to really try to help people. With Coronavirus people are looking at what they consume on every level."

The business has gone from strength to strength and now employs three people in their production facility in Ferbane, Co Offaly.

KO is available to purchase in hundreds of independent stores across Ireland, and by the case online via the website. This is a great place to start for anyone looking to try kombucha out and see if it works for them. It will be available in Supervalu in Mayo, for 12 weeks.

They also sell kombucha starter kits, which include everything needed to start you very own kombucha brew at home.www.kokombucha.com@kokombucha
