Q: I’m in a job I don’t like – and that’s to put it mildly. My role is as an office receptionist, but it’s too narrow in focus for me. I’d much prefer to be working in a hotel doing sales and reservations, instead of just pushing calls through to my bosses, which I’m currently doing. Another job has come up in a hotel in sales, but, as I’m only three months in this job, I think it might look bad on my CV if I up sticks now and go. What do you think? Should I stay or should I go? Centra’s new own brand range supporting Mayo suppliers

Centra, one of Ireland’s leading convenience retailers, is helping to boost the Irish economy through its recently launched Own Brand range of 900 products. One hundred and ten of the 150 suppliers who produce this innovative range are Irish, with two of these suppliers coming from Mayo. The Mayo companies are O’Hara’s Bakery and William Carr & Sons Limited.

Projected retail sales in 2013 for these 110 Irish companies is expected to be in excess of €150 million. Initial performance of the range has been strong, with sales of €40 million achieved since its launch in April; a figure that is set to grow as awareness increases, according to Centra.

BAI issues rules on food advertising to children during daytime shows

The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) has issued revised versions of its General and Children’s Commercial Communications Codes. The Codes have been updated to include rules to be applied to the promotion of High Fat, Salt and Sugar (HFSS) food to children. The rules will come into effect on September 2 and will apply to all radio and television broadcasters regulated in the Republic of Ireland. Commercial communications include advertising, sponsorship and other forms of commercial announcements.

Over 50s from county Galway are being encouraged to start a new business, using their transferrable skills developed during their time in the workforce. Those who have taken early retirement or redundancy payments in particular are being urged to consider starting their own company.

Individuals aged over 50 who are thinking of starting their own business, or in the early stages of a start-up are being invited to a two day National Workshop on July 1 and July 2 in the Hodson Bay Hotel, Athlone. The “Change, Challenge and Opportunity” two day residential workshop is organised by Galway County & City Enterprise Board and the network of County and City Enterprise Boards and will focus on giving participants an insight into what is needed to research, start and develop a business.
