Coeliac Society western branch to hold Christmas lunch next week

The western branch of the Coeliac Society of Ireland will hold its annual Christmas lunch on Sunday December 8 at 12.30pm in The Twelve Hotel, Barna.

This annual event is an opportunity for coeliacs in the west to meet up, exchange tips and information, and enjoy a festive gluten-free meal together, without the usual dining out concerns.

All are welcome to attend, to book call 087 3910673.

Coeliac disease is a lifelong condition which causes some adults or children react to gluten, the protein found in wheat, barley, oats, and rye. A gluten-free diet for life is the only treatment, and this causes difficulties for coeliacs due to the high cost of gluten-free foods, their only medicine.

Support and information, including meeting fellow coeliacs, is essential to cope with this condition. The Coeliac Society of Ireland provides an annual food list, newsletters, website, an e-bulletin, and support events and literature to help those who must stick to a gluten-free diet.

The Coeliac Society of Ireland works to improve the life of its members and to highlight the condition among health professionals, the catering industry, and food manufacturers.
