GMIT offers new part-time BA degree in human resource management

Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) is to offer a new part-time degree programme in its Galway and Mayo campuses, a BA in Human Resource Management (Level 7), commencing in September 2012.
The professional accreditation of the new programme was granted to GMIT this week by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), Europe’s largest HR development professional body.
The new HR management degree will be delivered on a part-time basis on Fridays and Saturday mornings in the Castlebar and Dublin Road (Galway) campuses. See full programme details on http://www.gmit.ie/business/new-programmes.html
In addition to earning a specialised education in HR Management, graduates of the programme may be eligible to receive an Intermediate
Level Diploma accredited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), and can also attain associate membership of the CIPD.
Dr Laurence Elwood, Head of the GMIT School of Business, says there has been significant demand for the degree in recent years: “Human resource management as a means of creating superior organisational performance is widely accepted and organisations in this region can now look forward to a supply of graduates capable of devising and implementing human resource strategies. This programme will also allow companies within our region to upskill their staff in a minimally disruptive manner and will utilize modern technology for the simultaneous delivery of lectures between our Galway and Castlebar campuses.”
Alan Dodrill, Chairperson CIPD Western region committee, says: “The CIPD accreditation of the newly developed BA in HRM is a welcome recognition of the academic and professional qualification now available to current or potential members of the HR community in the Western region.”
