HOT MIKADO, the jazz-infused adaptation of Gilbert and Sullivan’s wonderful The Mikado will be performed by Loughrea Youth Theatre throughout this month.

Gilbert and Sullivan’s 1885 hit was given a sassy jazz, gospel, and Motown makeover in the centenary year 1985 by Rob Bowman and David H Bell.

In this version, Titipu is a swinging town where everybody can either play an instrument or dance. The core of the original story remains though as Nanki-Poo searches for his true love, Yum-Yum. The problem however is that Ko-Ko, the Lord High Executioner, is set to marry Yum-Yum himself!

The production stars Ailbhe Lohan, Conor O’Meara, Emily Lohan, Conor Hanley, and Fiona Whelan. It will be performed nightly at 7.30pm in The Temperance Hall, Loughrea, this Saturday, Sunday, and Monday; July 23 to 25; and from July 30 to August 1. Tickets are available at the door.
