Two new exhibitions @ Galway Arts Centre

THE GALWAY Arts Centre will open two new exhibitions tomorrow evening - one is a solo show while the other is group exhibition.

Are All The Roses Blue and The Violence Red? is a new solo exhibition by Galway artist Sandra Ann Vita Minchin, which will be officially opened by the Tate Britain’s Marianne Mulvey at 6pm.

In this exhibition, Minchin deals with subconscious fears, responding to her personal experiences of illness and making reference to martyrdom, execution, and torture. Her combination of controversial and striking imagery through photography, objects, and installation seeks to evoke the fear of the unknown while simultaneously concealing the pain and fear of the sufferer.

You/Protect, an exhibition of work by members of the Grúpat collective - Freya Birren, Turf Boon, The Dowager Marchylove, The Parks Service, and Jennifer Walshe, will be opened by Galway artist Aideen Barry at 6pm.

Grúpat is an international art collective based in Tallaght which emerged from the graffiti culture and ‘guerrilla performances’ in the late 1990s. This exhibition will feature sonic sculptures, sound installations, avant garde music, and environmentally sustainable sculptural instruments.

Both exhibitions continue until April 23. See
