KATS to perform Portia Coughlan

PORTIA COUGHLAN is haunted by the death of her twin brother, which took place 15 years ago, and yet, over this time, his ghost keeps calling her.

Portia in turn has become a ghostly figure. She lives with her husband, whom she cannot love and her three children, who she cannot trust herself to look after.

This is the premise of the play Portia Coughlan by Irish playwright Marina Carr. It will be performed in the Town Hall Theatre by the Knocknacarra Amateur Theatre Society from Tuesday February 22 to Thursday 24 at 8pm.

Carr’s play is a biting black comedy that looks at Portia’s struggle to live up to family expectations. Incestuous relationships, domestic violence, and infidelity are all part of the sexual charged landscape where old mistakes constantly repeat themselves. Portia Coughlan is about speaking the unspoken, exploring the boundaries of desire with self destructive consequences. The play is directed by Frank Commins.

Tickets are €18/15 from the Town Hall on 091 - 569777 and www.tht.ie
