Looking at the future of LGBT+ theatre in Galway

THISISPOPBABY’s Phillip McMahon to lead discussion on making space for diverse stories on the Irish stage

THE FUTURE of LGBT+ theatre in Galway, community-building, and making space for diverse stories on the Irish stage, will be the focus of an event taking place next week.

Phillip McMahon, the playwright and director with Dublin-Based theatre and events production company THISISPOPBABY (Riot!; Queer Notions Festival ) will be the featured speaker for ‘Staging Queer Acts: Theatre, Space-making & Narratives of Joy’.

This online discussion will take place on Tuesday May 25 at 4pm, with McMahon joined by Dr Ciara Murphy (lecturer in Drama, NUIG ) and Jamie Bigley (PhD Student in Drama and Theatre Studies, NUIG ).

“I’m excited for us to come together and have these conversations,” says Jamie, who is also the creative producer of new theatre company, Dolly Screeve. “There is so much potential here in the West of Ireland for new work from diverse LGBTQ+ voices and I want to see that happening.”
