Oughterard to host key Social Enterprise event in October

Community groups and sports clubs in Galway are being asked to take part in upcoming workshops that will inform the development of a new National Volunteering Strategy.

From July 28 to July 30, Summer Vibes returns to bring the pulse of the party right into the heart of the city. Whether you are just back from the track or have no plans to set foot near it, Galway is very much open for a good time to be had.

Galway Volunteer Centre has announced this week that it is urgently seeking new office space in Galway City Centre to allow it to continue its work for the public and the community.

Nominations are now open for the 2024 Volunteer Ireland Awards. The public is being invited to nominate volunteers in their community across 11 categories, with one volunteer being named Christine Buckley Volunteer of the Year at the ceremony in December. The Volunteer Ireland Awards take place annually and celebrate the immense contribution volunteers make to communities across Ireland. Nominations can be made at www.volunteer.ie/nominate.

The new exhibition, Surrounded by Stone, Galway: 1100 BC – AD 1750 was last week officially launched at Galway City Museum. The opening was performed by Lynn Scarff, Director of the National Museum of Ireland. Other speakers at the event included the Mayor of the City of Galway, Cllr. Eddie Hoare, Chief Executive of Galway City Council, Leonard Cleary and the Director of the Galway City Museum, Eithne Verling.

For the first time since 2020, members of the public interested in volunteering are being invited to the Galway City Volunteer Recruitment Fair in Leisureland on Sunday February 18 between 2pm and 5pm. There will be over 50 charities and community organisations from across the city at the Fair, which is being organised by Galway Volunteer Centre. Last year over 1000 people attended the event to speak to organisations about the work that they do and the volunteer roles that they are trying to fill.
