The Castlebar Joint Policing Committee was told this week that the head shops were always one step ahead of legislation, despite public concerns. • Galway County badminton team enjoyed a famous win in the All Ireland inter-county finals at NUIG sports centre. Having advanced from the qualifying weekend, Galway faced Roscommon in what proved a tight All-Ireland semi final. Early nerves and a couple of tight set losses saw the team trail Roscommon 3-2 in the best of nine, but a great win in the first ladies’ doubles saw Galway draw 3-3. Galway won two of the three mixed games to squeeze through to the All Ireland final 5-3. Up against Meath, Galway got off to a flying start, winning both singles to take a 2-0 lead. Second ladies and second men soon followed to leave Galway in a strong 4-0 lead. It was left to Galway's first doubles pairing of Ross Creaven and Colm Franks to clinch the deciding match to give Galway an unbeatable 5-0 lead and the Class 4 All-Ireland title.
