Two Mullingar estates to be taken in charge

Two more housing estates in the Mullingar area are to be taken in charge if councillors agree at next week’s meeting of Westmeath County Council.

The council has recommended taking in charge Saunders Court, Mullingar and Windtown Pard, Rathowen. The latter will only be taken in charge if an agreement can be reached with the receiver in the meantime in relation to the treatment plant.

The council is also recommending the commencement of the taking in charge process for Clos in Blinn in Kinnegad.

A total of 18 estates remain in the Mullingar area that have not yet been taken in charge, of which 13 have commenced the taking in charge process.

Apart from the three mentioned above, the 15 other housing estates on the list are Belvedere Hills, Prospect, Central Park, Coil Rua, Rathgowan Wood/ Rathgowan Park, Cloon Lara, Highfield, Lynderry Court, Marlinstown Lawns, Forest View Rathconrath, Lakepoint Park/ Gleann Petit, Glenmore Wood, and Royal Canal in Mullingar; and Manorfield and St Etchen’s Court in Kinnegad.

Senior executive officer in the council’s legal and enforcement section, Pat Keating, says he is continuing to engage with the developers and residents in all estates in the list - whether by negotiation, enforcement, or legal action where required.

Councillors praised the progress made by Mr Keating since taking up his position.
