It might not have had as much on the line as their meeting in the Mayo GAA Senior Football Championship semi-final last year, but Castlebar Mitchels and Westport gave the culminating game of the Mayo GAA Senior Football League the ending the competition deserved last Saturday evening in Hastings Insurance MacHale Park.

The Mayo ladies take centre stage for us when they take on Kerry this Saturday in the All-Ireland semi- final in Thurles. This will be a testing encounter for them as Kerry will be full of confidence and expectation after defeating All-Ireland champions Meath in their quarter final.
Michael Moyles' team have showed great composure and character throughout the year especially in the quarter final win over Galway when they looked like they were in danger of losing.

Castlebar Celtic's Eoghan Hughes was the standout performer, netting a hat-trick for the Hoops in their 4-0 victory against Manulla on Saturday at Celtic Park in the Calor Gas Super Cup quarter-final.
Celtic appeared comfortable despite only holding a one-goal lead at halftime, as Hughes scored the opener after twenty minutes. However, their clinical performance in the second half secured their spot in the cup's semi-finals in a month's time. Shortly after the break, Paul Walsh added another goal to make it 2-0 before Hughes completed his hat-trick within a four-minute span midway through the second half.

Shauna Howley's last-second point sealed Mayo's second championship victory over Galway last Saturday in Pearse Stadium in Salthill and booked Michael Moyles' side a place in the final four of the All Ireland series for the third year in a row. They will be testing their mettle against Kerry in Semple Stadium on Saturday week in a repeat of last year's semi-final, where the Kingdom emerged victorious.

The Mayo GAA Senior Football Leagues are down to the final four across the top three divisions, with a feast of knock-out football taking place this coming weekend.
In Division One, the last four teams standing are defending county champions Westport, Knockmore who claimed the two previous championship titles, a resurgent Castlebar Mitchels, and Garrymore, who once again showed they will be there or thereabouts come championship time.

The Lake District athletes had yet another busy weekend in Tullamore competing in the Juvenile All Irelands Day 1 and the Juvenile B All Irelands. Competing on Saturday last was Eoin Jennings, Ryan McCormack, Liam Lynch, David Marrey and Grace Jennings. Eoin Jennings and Ryan McCormack competed in the U15 Boys Javelin and both represented their club and gained invaluable experience on the national stage.
