Mayo falter in second half against Fermanagh
Fri, Feb 17, 2023
Mayo remain winless in Division 3A of the National Hurling League, following their narrow defeat on the road against Fermanagh last Sunday, going down on a scoreline of 2-18 to 2-16 to the Erne men in St. Joseph’s Park, Ederney.
This is still a Mayo team very much in experimentation mode with their Tooreen contingent still mostly absent, bar Daniel Huane who captained the side from the middle of the park - but with a tough game coming up against Armagh on the road the weekend after this, their new management team of Dave McConn and Tom Phillips will be conscious that they will need to garner a win in that game to pick up some momentum.

It was utter heartbreak for Charlestown LGFA as they were beaten in the All-Ireland intermediate semi-final by Longford Slashers on a score line of 1-11 to 0-10.
News broke as we arrived in Longford for the game that star defender Elaine O Donnell had gone over on her ankle in the warmup and had to be stretchered off the field. It was a cruel blow for one of the team’s inspirational players and although she took her place for the start of the game you could see she was carrying her leg throughout and wasn't comfortable.

It was another miserable weekend for Mayo GAA clubs against Galway opposition as both Ballyhaunis and Islandeady succumbed to Dunmore and Clifden respectively in the Connacht Intermediate and Junior semi finals.
This of course follows on from Moycullen's 13 point demolition of Westport in the senior quarter final two weeks ago meaning three defeats from three for adult mens Mayo teams against their Galway counterparts. It is a worrying trend no matter what way you look it.

There will be a number of battles for votes over the coming weeks in the lead up to the 2022 Mayo GAA Convention, which will take place in the McWilliam Park Hotel in Claremorris on December 11, following the close of nominations last Sunday.
