Confirmation of Mayo Abbey National School funding

Fine Gael Leader, Enda Kenny, TD, has received written confirmation from the Department of Education and Skills that a grant has been approved for Mayo Abbey National School to construct additional accommodation for a new three classroom building. The current school is almost 115 years old and is in need of serious improvement works.

New housing scheme ‘putting a gun” to tenants heads

purchase scheme which came into force at the beginning of the year has been roundly criticised by members of Mayo County Council. A number of changes have been introduced with the main ones being that the scheme will only apply to new build homes from now on only for new tenants, and that existing tenants can have only a two year window to purchase their current homes. Once that two year period is over, if they want to get involved in the scheme they will have to move to a new build home, which may be nowhere near where they currently live.

Pat Carey TD, Minister at the Department of Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs, has announced funding of over €39,000 for a further 24 community and voluntary groups under the new Seniors Alert Scheme. In Mayo groups to receive funding are Fahy Community Alert Group, €279.90; Louisburgh Lecanvey Community Alert, €547.00; SVDP St Colman’s Conference, €2,458.00.
