Garda Inspector Joe Doherty this week made an application in Ballyhaunis District Court for the forfeiture of a van used in an attempted diesel theft and for the disqualification from driving of a man who pleaded guilty to the charge. Judge Mary Devins adjourned the sentencing on the issue until April 5 while she considered the applications.

Shell to Sea has criticised a decision by Minister for Energy Pat Carey to sign consents for the last section of the Corrib gas pipeline on the day of the General Election. Permission has been granted for the construction of a gas pipeline from the Corrib gas field subsea facilities to the Corrib gas terminal at Bellanaboy and for an approval of an addendum to the Plan of Development for the Corrib gas field development.

Mayo County Council is to receive €9.47 million from the Government under the Rural Water Programme, according to Fianna Fáil TD Dara Calleary. The Minister of State has also confirmed that the maximum grant per household under the group water schemes is set to increase by €1,000.
