Personal details of ‘rape tape’ victims leaked

One of the two women at the centre of the alleged garda ‘rape tape’ comments spoke publicly for the first time at a press conference in Dublin yesterday (Thursday).

Jerrie Ann Sullivan said she felt forced to come forward because personal details had been leaked to selected journalists, at least one of whom called to the Dublin address she had provided at Belmullet Garda station last week.

Ireland’s economic difficulties paled into insignificance as members of the Westport/Aror (Kenya) Partnership travelled through the Mukuru slum of Nairobi recently. The team from Westport (Michael O’Donnell, Gertie Foley, Margaret Joyce and Barbara Rabbett) were on their way to visit a dispensary, run by the Medical Missionaries of Mary, to see how funds sent from Westport had been put to use by the Sisters. As they made their way slowly through the slum towards the dispensary, they were overwhelmed by the sights and putrid smells of poverty, misery, and filth that surrounded them. It was hard to endure, even for a short time. And yet, these are the living conditions of almost two million people in Nairobi.

Buy a Block for Mayo Abbey National School

Friday night, April 1, saw the launch of the ‘Buy a Block’ initiative in aid of Mayo Abbey NS. The launch was held at an Irish night in Malachy Byrne’s. The wonderful Sister Act provided the music and the night was well supported by parents and people from the local community.

Work has started on a new three-teacher school in Mayo Abbey and the Buy a Block campaign is being run to help with fundraising. The first block for the new building was raffled at the Irish night and was won by Denise Duggan.
