IWAK looking forward to busiest year in airport’s history

Ireland West Airport Knock experienced its second busiest July in its 25 year history with 73,237 passengers travelling through the airport in the month. This is the seventh consecutive month of passenger growth at the airport. Some 367,000 passengers have travelled through Ireland West Airport Knock in the first seven months of the year, a 16 per cent increase over the same period last year, the largest passenger increase of any airport in Ireland in 2011.

Ballina man gets eight months for shocking incidents

Judge Conal Gibbons sentenced a Ballina man to a total of eight months in prison after convicting him of a number of offences. Derek Humber, 31 Trawley Terrace, Ballina, had appeared before Judge Gibbons the previous week where evidence was given in relation to two incidents which occurred earlier this year, one at Mayo General Hospital on February 20, and another at his home in Ballina on February 6 where he had to be arrested by gardaí for being threatening and abusive, and for being intoxicated in a public place and in possession of a broken bottle. He also faced a charge of failing to appear in court while on bail in Ballina on March 8, Humber pleaded guilty to all charges.

Main Street in Castlebar closed following falling debris

The Main Street in Castlebar was closed off for a period of time on Wednesday evening after a large quantity of stone work from a chimney on a building fell off.

According to Gardaí, the incident happened at around 6pm and the street was closed off for a short period of time while repairs were carried out. There were no injuries caused by the falling debris, but a car parked in the vicinity was damaged.
