The Western Development Commission, in association with photo website Pix.ie, has launched a photo competition to highlight the Creative West as the Western Region rapidly becomes Ireland’s hub for the creative industries with over 11,000 jobs in the sector according to a recent WDC survey.

Congratulations to the Rockvale Residents Association who organised an excellent clean up of the estate last week. Over 20 bags of litter were filled and with the assistance of the Town Council this was collected and disposed of environmentally.

Jobs lost as ACC bank announces closure of Castlebar and Ballina offices

The number of workers signing on in Mayo is set to increase yet again with the decision by ACC Bank to close 16 of its branches nationwide including its branches in Castlebar and Ballina. The 24 expected job losses will soon be adding to the unemployment figures in the county.

The actions of a 31-year-old man who was involved in a “horrific incident” at the Accident and Emergency Department at Mayo General Hospital — when he was abusive to staff, was forcefully removed and then broke glass panels with his fist and a refuse bin, which resulted in A&E being evacuated — were described as “totally unacceptable behaviour” by Judge Mary Devins at Castlebar District Court on Wednesday.
