Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny TD, in his position as vice president of the European People’s Party (EPP), will chair the new EPP Ministers of Employment, Labour, and Social Affairs group. This is following a decision by the EPP presidency where the Mayo TD will chair the preparatory meetings prior to the scheduled meetings of the Council of Ministers on behalf of the EPP. The position will be chaired in conjunction with Italian Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Maurizio Sacconi, on behalf of the ministers.

The Swine Flu vaccination clinic at Mayo General Hospital is now opening on Mondays only. There will be no clinic on Thursday February 11. It is intended that some of the staff from this clinic will be redeployed to work with the school vaccination teams in County Mayo.

Following the announcement of almost €12 million roads funding for Mayo by the National Roads Authority, Mayo Fine Gael Deputy Michael Ring has criticised the allocation. The Westport deputy told the Mayo Advertiser: “What we need now is less spinning from the Government and more tar on the roads. We’ve had enough of it. The NRA funding has gone up by around €220,000 this year, but a lot of that is down to the N5 Bohola to Westport road.”
