The Irish Heart Foundation is calling on all primary schools in Mayo to get their ropes at the ready for Skipathon 2010. Running for 26 years, the Irish Heart Foundation’s Skipathon is a hot favourite on the Irish calendar for children nationwide.

Mayo post-primary students are encouraged to get their entries in quickly for this year’s SciFest ahead of the deadline of Friday March 12. Last year Mayo student Aoife Bell from St Joseph’s College, Castlebar received an Intel Excellence in Science medal for her project entitled ‘Caffeine: A help or hindrance’. Sinn Féin councillor Thérèse Ruane is calling for the immediate intervention of the Minister for Social and Family Affairs to address the plight of families who are unemployed but cannot avail of social welfare entitlements. She insists that people who were self employed, but now have no work, are entitled to the support and protection of the State.
