There have been two drink driving arrests in the county since Monday. One arrest was made in the Claremorris area and the other arrest was made in the Castlebar area.

Judge does not impose custodial sentence on youth who robbed nun

Judge Conal Gibbons, convicted and fined a youth who stole €100 from a nun in Ballina District Court this week. The previous week Judge Gibbons had remanded the youth in St Patrick’s Institution for a week, so he could hear from the probation service which had been working with the youth previously.

Men appear in court in connection with attempted robbery

A pair of Polish men appeared in court in Ballina this week in connection with an attempted robbery in Claremorris at the weekend.

Martin Justa and Rafal Justa, The Cottage, Brookhill, Claremorris, were arrested by Garda Ciaran McGrath at 5.25pm on August 22 at Mount Street, Claremorris. Garda McGrath told the court that he brought both men to Claremorris Garda Station where he charged both men with attempted robbery and Rafal Justa with possession of a knife. Both men were remanded on their own bail to appear in Claremorris District Court, sitting in Kiltimagh on September 21.
