Mayo boxing clubs are benefiting from some €160,000 worth of funding which was paid out under a special grant introduced to improve facilities and, in particular, facilities to accommodate female boxers.
Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring has issued the details of the grants and the clubs to which they were awarded. The special allocation is being administered by the Irish Amateur Boxing Association.

EirGrid has announced the commencement of the second round of public consultation on the Grid West project and has also invited the public to attend an open day in their area. The two Mayo open days take place on Tuesday August 28 at Kiltane GAA Club, Bangor Erris, from 1pm to 8pm, and on Tuesday September 4 at the McWilliam Park Hotel, Claremorris, from 1pm to 8pm.

The Mayo Peace Park committee are organising a tour to the battlefields, museums, and cemeteries where the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines from Mayo fought and fell in World War I. One thousand two hundred names of the Mayo fallen, the majority from World War I, are commemorated at the Peace Park in Castlebar.
This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone from Mayo or beyond to remember and pay tribute to our fallen heroes.

Mayo Volunteer Centre has seen some 230 volunteers register with the centre so far this year. Following the success of Ireland’s first National Volunteering Week in May, interest in volunteering remains at a high.
Of those registered with the volunteer centre, some 240 volunteers have already been placed in roles this year and begun volunteering. Since Mayo launched its countywide service in 2010, volunteers placed by the centre have contributed an incredible 73,929 hours of voluntary work to community groups and charities across the county. Using the current average industrial wage, this work equates to a value of more than €1,600,000.
