The newly completed HSE West ambulance base located one mile west of Mulranny village will commence day operations next month according to Mulranny GP and former TD, Dr Jerry Cowley. The new base will provide state-of-the–art ambulance services to the local populations of Achill, Corraun, Mulranny, Tiernaur, Newport, and Louisburgh, and north along the N59 towards Ballycroy and Bangor Erris.

Mayo Fine Gael TD John O'Mahony has welcomed the news that approximately €100,000 is being spent on refurbishments at the Dalton Community Unit in Claremorris. According to Deputy O'Mahony the investment will enable the unit meet and comply with HIQA standards and prepare for the next audit due in 2015.

With the holiday season in full swing the AA is appealing to party goers not to take a lift from someone they know or suspect to be over the legal alcohol limit. Highlighting the frequency of the practice, in a recent AA motor insurance poll of close to 15,000 people, 13 per cent of respondents said they had travelled in a car with someone they knew to have more than the legal permissible amount of alcohol in their system within the last year.

Funding of €76,000 has been approved for resurfacing and hardening works in Claremorris, from St Coleman’s College towards Claremorris town.
This money has been made available from the Claremorris Local Roads Restoration Improvements Scheme 2013 according to local independent councillor Richard Finn.

From January 2013, anyone who applies for a first learner permit or is renewing his/her driving licence will receive a modern, plastic, credit-card sized version. The new licence will be in a format that is standardised and recognisable throughout the EU and is one of the changes being introduced in Ireland as part of a new EU directive.

All of the Swinford solicitors and their staff are challenging the evaluation criteria set out by the Courts Service in an effort to have at least one court in operation for east Mayo. At present, based on the flawed criteria and a lack of meaningful engagement with the local community, the closure is likely. It also comes at a time when Swinford Garda Station has been downgraded and the closure of the local Teagasc office is imminent.
