Chambers meets MEPS in Brussels

Castlebar based Fianna Fáil vice-president and local area representative, Lisa Chambers, met with Fianna Fáil MEPs Pat ‘the Cope’ Gallagher, Liam Aylward and Brian Crowley in Brussels on a recent trip. Lisa, who is chair of the European Affairs Committee of the Fianna Fáil National Executive, and three committee members were invited to Brussels to visit the Commission and the Parliament, and also to meet with the Fianna Fáil MEPs.

They met with representatives of the ALDE Party, of which Fianna Fáil is a member. They also met representatives of the Committee of Regions, a representative body for local and regional authorities in Europe and with a representative of the Cabinet of the European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science, Máire Geoghegan-Quinn.

The news that 110 jobs are to be shed by Baxter in Castlebar in the coming months, sent shockwaves through the town when news of the losses emerged late last weekend. The pharmaceutical company which has been in Castlebar since 1972 is one of the major employers in Castlebar and surrounding areas and this news will have come to a shock to hundreds of families in the county. All Mayo train stations now have ticket vending machines

All Iarnród Éireann stations in Mayo have now been ticket vending machines. Machines were installed and commissioned at Westport, Ballyhaunis, Claremorris, Castlebar, and Ballina in recent weeks to complete the availability of ticket vending machines at stations in the county.
