Inclusion seminar coming up in Westport

Clan Beo in partnership with international speakers Derek Wilson and Colin Newton of Inclusive Solutions will present a series of seminars in the newly opened Quay Community Centre in Springfield, Westport Quay on Friday, February 28 and Saturday March 1.

On the Friday a day long seminar detailing progressive approaches to inclusion and independent living in the community for people living with a disability has been put together to address some questions raised by people working in community development, youth work, family resource networks and disability support services.

Man's body recovered from riverbank

A man's body was recovered from the riverbank in Ballina this afternoon (Tuesday, February 11). Gardai confirmed that the body was that of 61-year-old Padraig Sharkey, who was last seen in the Moy Heights area of Ballina on last Thursday. Sharkey had been missing from his home in Castlebar.

Four picked by Fianna Fáil for West Mayo constituency

At the West Mayo Fianna Fáil selection in Mulranny on Friday night, four candidates were selected by the party to go forward for May's local elections. Westport Town will have two candidates with current town councillor Brendan Mulroy and newcomer Joan Geraghty getting the nod. They will be joined on the ballot by Lousiburgh's Tommy Joe Jennings and Paul McNamara from Achill. The party still have to select one more candidate from the Erris area for this constituency with the Erris convention taking place on Monday, February 17. Fianna Fáil will go into the election with two of their most experienced councillors opting not to stand this time with both Westport based Margaret Adams and Achill's Michéal McNamara deciding not to run.
