Clann Machua win Mayo County Council Amateur Drama award

Clann Machua Drama Group has been awarded the Mayo County Council Amateur Drama Award for 2014. The award of € 1,000 was assessed by an independent panel on the following criteria: innovation; development of excellence; quality and creativity; and which improve the amateur drama sector in an area. All amateur drama groups based in the county are eligible to apply for the award.

Ballina District Court heard on Tuesday that a man who careened around a Ballina estate in a Nissan Micra in an attempt to avoid gardaí was only driving the car because he owed his passenger money for drugs.
Twenty-three year old John Anthony McDonagh, of 58 St Patrick’s Estate, Ballina, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving without insurance, NCT or a licence on May 22 last.

Irish cycling hero Sean Kelly was on hand this week to launch the Saddle Up for Epilepsy Cycle in Breaffy House. The charity cycle will take place on Saturday February 14 departing from the Breaffy Sports Arena and it offers three different lengths of cycle routes — 40km, 80km, and 120km.
