The hotel and catering trade in Mayo has found a new advocate in industry consultancy company Hospitality West. The training and consultancy company which also offers customers and candidates a fully licensed recruitment agency specific to the trade has been full steam ahead since its inception into the sector late last year. According to its founder Mark Quinn, the tourism industry here is gearing up for a busy season. “We are busy this time of year with establishments getting ready for the spring season which will kick off in a month or so. A lot of places are looking for staff much earlier so that they have a good team ready to meet the demand of the Easter break,” explained Mr Quinn

Mayo’s frequent appearances down through the years in the pages of one of the world’s best known magazines, National Geographic, is to be the subject of an illustrated lecture at the GMIT Castlebar campus on Wednesday next at 8pm.
Guest lecturer Patrick Duffy, emeritus professor of geography at Maynooth University, will deliver the talk entitled ‘Picturing Ireland; a century in the National Geographic magazine, 1915-2015’.

The budget was adopted by the members, but with a number of them stating their reservations about the size of the budget.

This week marked the fourth anniversary of the 2011 General Election and Enda Kenny’s rise to the Taoiseach’s office. Last weekend Mr Kenny brought it all back home with the Fine Gael National Convention taking place in the Royal Theatre, Castlebar. The convention brought in the region of 2,000 Fine Gael delegates to the town for the weekend and gave a nice economic boost to the town.

Mayo IFA chairperson Padraic Joyce is calling on the Minister for Agriculture, Simon Coveney, to make a six-month payment to farmers signing up for GLAS in 2015.
As it stands, the Minister has indicated farmers will receive a three-month payment in 2015, but Mr Joyce said this is not sufficient.
