Ballinrobe gears up for Mayo Fleadh

The fleadh cheoil season is upon us again and it is time to take to the road. This year’s Fleadh Cheoil Mhaigh Eo will take place in Ballinrobe on the weekend of Saturday May 7 and Sunday May 8, full details of the event were announced in Ballinrobe recently. The launch was performed by the Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, Cllr Michael Holmes, emphasising the growing links between Mayo Comhaltas and Mayo County Council.

€151,000 allocated to Rushbrook and Millbrook Estates in Claremorris

Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring has announced that funding in the amount of €151,000 has been allocated to Rushbrook and Millbrook estates in Claremorris. Minister Ring said: “I am delighted to announce funding in the amount of €151,000 to complete works in respect of footpaths and lighting at Rushbrook and Millbrook estates in Claremorris.

Mayo Day celebrations to be broadcast live

A special live broadcast to celebrate Mayo Day will go out on IRISH TV on Saturday April 30 next as part of a weekend long convention celebrating all things Mayo. The Mayo Association World Convention hosted by the Dublin Mayo Association in partnership with Mayo County Council takes place over the weekend of Friday April 29 to Sunday May 1 in the Broadhaven Bay Hotel in Belmullet.

The seminar was chaired by Dr Deirdre Garvey, GMIT Mayo head of campus, and it was designed to showcase research on women’s history that is ongoing in GMIT Mayo.

The May Bank Holiday Weekend is fast approaching and that means one thing. It is time to pull out all things pink and get your house, your street, your business, your town, and yourself ready for the annual Mayo Pink Ribbon Charity Cycle which this year will take place on Saturday April 30.

The hope for that weekend is that the community will 'Turn Mayo Pink' once again in recognition of all those cycling for breast cancer research and also in solidarity with all those who have been affected by breast cancer. Last year Mayo outdid itself in the pink effort and everyone was talking about the welcome it created. The pink bikes adorning the streets of our towns coupled with the pink windows and ribbons created a very special atmosphere in the county.

Mayo.ie in association with Ashford Castle has announced its Mayo Day Photo Competition where you are asked to 'Capture your Mayo Moment'. The scope can be as broad as your imagination and can include any aspect of Mayo, such as capturing the beautiful scenery, heritage, and culture. Grab those humorous and creative images, you can even produce your own video. Should art, poetry, and music be more your thing, take a photo or video of your finished product and that can be your snapshot. The choice is yours.

Mayo.ie would like to encourage entries from the global Mayo community to take part in its exciting competition to be in with a chance to win a great prize. Multiple entries are permissible for the competition and extra points will be given for originality.

Féile na Tuaithe is ready to bring the Museum to life

Climate change conference at Knock Shrine

A one-day conference entitled Climate Change and Me: Rising to the Laudato Si Challenge will take place at Knock Shrine on Saturday April 30. The event is being planned and co-ordinated by the Faith Renewal team at Knock Shrine, headed by Fr Richard Gibbons, in response to Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato Si, which highlights the great need for discussion and debate about the issue of climate change. ‘On Care For Our Common Home’, the encyclical critiques consumerism and irresponsible development, laments environmental degradation and global warming, and calls on all people of the world to take "swift and unified global action."

Westport Smarter Travel is holding a host of events to celebrate the summer, the longer days, and achievements of Westport Smarter Travel and the community. The festival which kicked off on Wednesday and runs until Saturday April 30 and will began with a Walk to Work (WOW) day, and last night Thursday April 21, the Westport Operation Transportation winners were announced at an award ceremony in Westport Town Hall. The participants and winners received their awards from a very special guest, Luke Concannon of Nizlopi, most well known for "The JCB Song" which reached number one in the UK and Irish charts.
