Ballyglass RNLI assists three fishermen on broken down trawler

Ballyglass RNLI assisted three fishermen after their 40ft trawler got into difficulty off the Mayo coast on Wednesday afternoon. The volunteer crew was requested to launch the all-weather lifeboat shortly after 10am on Wednesday following a report that a fishing vessel with three on board was experiencing problems some 28 nautical miles north of Benwee Head.

Bail refused for man in sexual offence case

A 70-year-old man was remanded in custody on Wednesday to appear today in Harristown Court after being charged under the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act and appearing in Castlebar District Court on that charge. The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested on Tuesday by gardai and was charged in Claremorris Garda Station.

Mayo Association Dublin invites people to meet the Canadian Ambassador, His Excellency, Kevin Vickers at the dinner on the Friday evening. Following the dinner, entertainment will be provided by the Sylvan Kelly School of Dancing from Ballina, a supremely talented group of dancers who are the current holders of three world titles and 47 world medals won at the 2016 World Irish Dancing Championships in Glasgow last month.

This year’s Fleadh Cheoil Mhaigh Eo will take place in Ballinrobe on the weekend of Saturday May 7 and Sunday May 8, full details of the event were announced in Ballinrobe recently. The launch was performed by the Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, Cllr Michael Holmes, emphasising the growing links between Mayo Comhaltas and Mayo County Council.

The May Bank Holiday Weekend is fast approaching and that means one thing. It is time to pull out all things pink and get your house, your street, your business, your town, and yourself ready for the annual Mayo Pink Ribbon Charity Cycle which this year will take place on Saturday April 30.

The hope for that weekend is that the community will 'Turn Mayo Pink' once again in recognition of all those cycling for breast cancer research and also in solidarity with all those who have been affected by breast cancer. Last year Mayo outdid itself in the pink effort and everyone was talking about the welcome it created. The pink bikes adorning the streets of our towns coupled with the pink windows and ribbons created a very special atmosphere in the county.

The scope can be as broad as your imagination and can include any aspect of Mayo, such as capturing the beautiful scenery, heritage, and culture. Grab those humorous and creative images, you can even produce your own video. Should art, poetry, and music be more your thing, take a photo or video of your finished product and that can be your snapshot. The choice is yours.
