Rents in Mayo on the rise again

In the July-September period this year, the average rent in county Mayo for newly registered properties with the Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) was €575. This is up €11 when compared to the average rent in Q2, 2017, which was €564, and is up €23 when compared to a year earlier, in Q3, 2016. This is according to the latest Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) Rent Index which is produced in conjunction with the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI).

Castlebar Rotary Club tree of remembrance in full bloom

Castlebar Rotary Club’s flagship fundraising project, The Tree of Remembrance is running again until tomorrow Saturday, December 23, for the 10th year in succession. The outstanding success of this event in previous years has made it a permanent feature in the Rotary Club’s calendar. Since the Rotary Tree of Remembrance started in 2008 it has raised more than €20,000 for local charities. The purpose of the tree is to give members of the public an opportunity to remember a loved one at Christmas while supporting local charities.

Ring approves €79k for south Mayo and Castlebar projects through LEADER

The Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring, this week approved LEADER funding of €79,250 for communities and businesses in south Mayo and Castlebar. These projects were selected by the Mayo LEADER Local Action Group and approved by Minister Ring.

GMIT report due to be released before Christmas

Former taoiseach Enda Kenny and Education Minister Richard Bruton established a working group in March to formulate a plan and a pathway for a sustainable future for the GMIT Mayo Campus in Castlebar.

Killala based plant put up for sale

An unfinished biomass power plant in north Mayo is expected to fetch almost €10 million after being put up for sale.

The plant, which was being built in Killala by Mayo Renewable Power, had already seen an investment of close to €100 million before work stopped when Mayo Renewable Power initially went into examinership, before entering liquidation in November last year.

Mayo University Hospital patient experience rating higher than national average

The findings of the National Patient Experience Survey, launched on Monday last, highlight positive patient experiences at Mayo University Hospital, showing above average positive findings for the Castlebar based campus.

Key findings overall for Mayo University Hospital were patients’ ratings of their experiences at MUH were slightly above the national average; 85 per cent of patients at MUH said they had a ‘very good’ or ‘good’ experience, compared with 84 per cent nationally.
