Ballina councillors urged to support N5 upgrade

Members of the Ballina Municipal District have been asked to support a submission by Mayo County Council backing the upgrade of the N5 between Ballaghaderreen and Scramoge, east of Strokestown.

Director of services in the Ballina area, Tom Gilligan, told last week’s meeting of the Ballina Municipal District that the council is making a submission because “strategically the road is very important for the county in connecting it with the east of the country”.

Final payment of €10m approved for Straide girl with cerebral palsy

A Straide girl with cerebral palsy has secured a €10 million lump sum payment under a final settlement of her action against the HSE over the circumstances of her birth at Mayo General Hospital.

The payment increases to €12.2m the total amount paid to Rachel Gallagher, now aged 11, of Straide, Foxford, Co Mayo.
