Poll shows no Mayo breakthrough for Green Party and Sinn Féin

The results of a Behaviour & Attitudes (B&A) opinion poll in county Mayo, carried out on behalf of The Mayo Advertiser, show a decline in the Fine Gael and Sinn Fein share of the vote, and an increase in support for Fianna Fail and Independents, when compared to the general election of 2016.

Castlebar to be headquarters for new garda division

On Wednesday it was announced that Castlebar would be the headquarters of the new Mayo/Roscommon/Longford garda division. The division will come under the newly restructured North West Region which will have its headquarters in Murrough in Galway.

There are 65.5 vacant posts at present at Mayo University Hospital at present - the information was supplied to Independent Cllr Michael Kilcoyne who submitted a question to the regional health forum asking: "How many staff posts are currently vacant at Mayo University Hospital? Please list the number in each category. How many nurses who graduated in 2019 will be offered permanent positions and temporary positions at Mayo University Hospital? In response he was told that "The total number of vacant posts currently at Mayo University Hospital is 64.5, Health & Social Care Professional: 10.5, Maintenance: 3, Management / Admin: 13, Nursing: 29, Support HCA/Porter/Domestic: 9 and 12 nursing graduates will be offered temporary posts.

Over 3,000 people waiting more than year to see a consultant

The total number of patients in Mayo University Hospital currently waiting to see a consultant greater than one year is 3,334, greater than two years is 606 and greater than three years is 754 patients according to figures released to Cllr Michael Kilcoyne this week. The councillor put forward a question to the regional health forum on the waiting list for their most recent meeting. He asked: What is the length of time patients in Mayo University Hospital have to wait to see a consultant and what is the length of time until their procedures are carried out? How many patients have been on the waiting list to see a consultant for over one year, over two years or over three years and the length of time patients have to wait from when they see a consultant until their procedure is carried out?
