The Corrib Gas Partners have insisted that the proposed Corrib gas pipeline is safe and meets all international standards and industry best practice. Their comments were made this week following an announcement by An Bord Pleanála that it would defer its decision on the onshore pipeline. This is the third delay on the decision regarding this onshore section of the pipeline which was originally due on August 10.

Thousands worth of Lotto tickets were stolen in a raid on Kiltimagh Post Office which occurred at 3am on Tuesday November 3. Raiders gained entry by smashing the glass on the front door.

The case involving a Castlebar man who headbutted one woman and thumped another woman in the face, after one of their friends asked the man for a cigarette, was heard at this week’s sitting of Castlebar District Court.
Ms Nadine Hughes told the court that after attending the carnival in Castlebar on the night of November 14/15 2008, she and her friends were on Linenhall Street, when one of her friends, Ms Megan Quinn asked Colin Conaty, 32 Riverdale Court, Castlebar, for a cigarette.

Transport 2008, which is a CSO thematic publication, bringing together a wide range of transport statistics mostly relating to data compiled from 2008, was published this Tuesday, which showed that more males in Mayo in comparison to females possess full driving licenses and are also the gender which obtained the most penalty points in the county in 2008 in speeding, driving without a safety belt and driving while holding a mobile phone.
